On leaving Kenninji I headed east towards the hills. My destination was Kiyomizudera.
I saw a pagoda on the way and I ifirst thought that this pagoda was part of the Kiyomizudera complex. I found out a few minutes later that this was the Yasaka Pagoda and is all that is left of Hokanji.
I chanced across this small temple halfway up the hill and I couldn’t help but notice that quite a number of young people were dressed in traditional costume. I later learned that there are businesses in Kyoto where one could rent traditional Japanese clothing and get dressed up for the day.
It was fascinating to watch tourists act all touristy. In the last photo, the gentleman in the middle had just taken a photograph with the maiko and was now sharing it with her.
